Redefining Wellness for Health Professionals

Bridging the gap between Clinical and Integrative Cancer Care

Gain the knowledge, evidence and understandings you need from a trusted clinical specialist and health professional

If you are a health professional working in oncology or palliative care, or see patients with an increased risk of cancer then this is for you!

It's time to bridge the gap between clinical, holistic and integrative cancer care, isn't it?

As a specialist health professional working in cancer care I come across many patients choosing to explore an integrative oncology approach alongside modern medicine.

I know the benefits, I see patients thrive every day.

My question to you is "How much do you know about the integrative therapies your patients are asking you about?"

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), cancer is a growing burden, and the number of new cancer cases is going to rise from 18.1 million in 2018 to 29.4 million by 2040.

It's time to transform our narratives and create the ripple of change we all aspire to see for ourselves and our future generations, don't you agree?

Standard cancer care protocols typically focus on eradicating the cancer cells and/or increasing survival time by treating the tumour.

Integrative oncology approaches focus on treating the patient as a whole, focusing on root cause, addressing the factors that led to the cancer diagnosis in the first place.

BOTH are important, it's far from a one or the other approach.

We are living in times where patients are well informed, and very often know more than their health professionals about an integrative oncology approach and their mind-body connection.

FACT: Modern medicine treats the tumour

FACT: Modern medicine of the future needs to treat the tumour and treat the patient - the environment where the tumour developed.

Surgically removing, irradiating and targeting a tumour with chemotherapy or other targeted therapies do what they are designed to do - remove or destroy tumour cells.

BUT, if we fail to change the environment that the tumour cells developed in the first place then nothing has changed other than the tumour itself.

Changing the environment where the tumour was able to grow is essential! (AKA - the body). Changing the body's terrain or environment is something that ONLY the patient can accomplish on their own, with the right support and guidance.

As health professionals I believe it is our duty to empower the patient to explore ways do this.

Updating our own knowledge equips us with the confidence and clarity to empower our patients in ways we may not have previously understood.

Up until now, the mind-body connection and integrative healthcare have rarely been taught in medical school or other healthcare professional training programs, have they?
